An individual who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a youth camp in the region has admitted sexual offences against two boys who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and an older person became sick at the facility in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was held in detention before a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a youth camp which he managed.
Ruben engaged in a "candy game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about the activities, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel stated materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She said the defendant continued to engage in the "treat game" with six children that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The prosecutor explained the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the authorities again.
She stated the defendant then engaged in the "treat game" in a area of five children.
